Dr Mark Dimitri
Dr Mark Dimitri is a triple-specialised medical physician in the fields of respiratory medicine (pulmonology), sleep disorders medicine, and general and acute care medicine.
Dr Dimitri practices in Sydney, Australia, having recently returned from the Northern Territory where he worked at Royal Darwin Hospital and various rural and remote outreach clinics.
Dr Dimitri witnessed first-hand the impact of healthcare infections on patients and their families, particularly in remote settings. Single-use devices lie at the heart of clinical medicine, and infection control using these devices is complex and resource-intensive.
Dr Dimitri is a champion for healthcare accessibility. In 2020, together with his brother Jay, Dr Dimitri founded ‘DMED’, a young company focusing on expanding access to infection control in environments with limited infrastructure and resources, and first responder scenarios.
Dr Dimitri has developed a novel barrier system that protects the sterility of single-use devices during medical procedures. The system is stand-alone and enables gold-standard infection control according to ANTT principles, independently of environmental factors. Unlike existing medical packaging, the barrier system does not rely on hospital infrastructure, equipment and resource availability, user training, or preparation time.
The DMED system makes gold-standard infection control accessible to anyone, anywhere, facilitating infection control wherever care happens. This novel medical packaging system has international patent protection, including in the United States.
